Notes From Dr.Lee

Dear Colleagues,

It's June 2010 already! Each year, I am surprised at how quickly time seems to pass. The year is halfway over, and yet we feel like we haven't even scratched the surface of all the savings and promotions we have planned for the year. There is plenty more to come, so keep watching your email and our homepage to make sure you are always getting the best discounts!

On a side note, throughout the 2010 year we have seen a significant increase in the purchases of our pipet tip line. Racked and sterile, bulk and non-sterile, you name it they are flying out of our warehouse doors. Sometimes even faster than we can keep stock! We drastically reduced the pricing at the beginning of the year and we have seen an overwhelming response. Not to mention our current promotion ongoing for 10% off all tips plus Free shipping on bulk tips! We are thrilled you are satisfied with our new, lower pricing. We will do our best to ensure these items stay in stock with the new higher demand.

Sincerely,

Winston Lee

Do You Have The Right Homeowner’s Insurance?

Many homeowners are not clear on exactly what their insurance covers or what the level of coverage is. They assume that if there is a catastrophic loss, they will be covered almost without exception. It's a smart idea to take a close look at your current homeowner's insurance policy and review the following major components.

What is covered: Have you made any additions or improvements to your house that need to be added to the policy? If you have, inform your agent in writing and send photographs to validate the improvements.
What is the coverage level: Has the value of your house risen in the last year? If you do not have a rider that automatically raises your coverage on an annual basis, you will need to adjust your level of coverage to match the increase in property value.
Guaranteed replacement cost: Does your policy stipulate that you will be paid a guaranteed replacement cost or is there a limit to your coverage? Review this with your agent.
Liability Insurance: What are the limits of coverage if someone is injured in your home?
Content Insurance: Have you added any expensive items (computers are a prime example) that need to be added to your policy?
How to maximize your coverage and minimize your premium cost: The following are a number of methods you can use to potentially lower your annual premium for your homeowner's insurance. Consult your agent to see which apply and how much you can save. In addition, most will add to the safety and security of your house.
Dead bolts: Install dead bolts on all exterior doors.
Security alarm: Install a security alarm.
Smoke detectors: Have smoke detectors on all floors.
Fire extinguishers: Have operational fire extinguishers available in the house.
Consider a higher deductible: If you are comfortable with the possibility of having to pay a bit more out of pocket in case of a loss, raising the deductible (the amount you will pay when there is a claim) will lower your annual premium.
Multiple policy discounts: Have your homeowner's policy and auto policy with same insurer; many insurers will give you a discount if you maintain both policies with them

Make Traveling Time Learning Time

If you're getting ready to take a family trip in the car, you might want to take advantage of that time to set up some educational activities your children will enjoy.

If you want to enhance your child's creativity, take along a tape recorder and give everyone a chance to sing a song. Then ask your child to sing a song he or she knows well but to change the lyrics. Education can be fun for your kids if you know how to deliver it.

You can also play games along the way. For instance, find license plates from other states and count them. Or you can look for things to identify in the landscape that follow an order – alphabetical perhaps, or color categories. Let your kids choose.

Word games are another excellent way of passing time and exercising your child's mind. Try rhyming games, opposite meaning words and so forth. You can also have everyone in the car empty their pockets of change, then let your child count it and calculate how many nickels, dimes, etc., you have and determine the overall total of change available. And don't forget to bring books. When you're tired and don't feel like playing anymore, your child still needs to be occupied. Giving him a book will allow him to stay active and give you a break.

What Is The World’s Fastest Land Animal?

The world's fastest land animal is the cheetah, able to accelerate to freeway speeds in just a step or two.

While best known as a fleet runner able to sprint short distances at up to 60 miles per hour, it was the cheetah's elegant spotted coat that caught the eye of ancient civilizations. Indeed, “cheetah” means “spotted one” in the Hindi language. But while many people think of cheetahs as being close relatives of the other big cats such as lions and tigers, they are actually quite different.

One difference is that cheetahs evolved much earlier than other large cats, arising from a cat-like mammal that lived about four million years ago. As a result, their bodies are different from lions, tigers and other great cats in many ways. Cheetah claws, for instance, don't retract like a house cat's, in part because the cheetah needs the extra traction during high-speed sprints. Similarly, cheetahs don't growl. They hiss or give a bird-like chirp instead, because they lack the vocal anatomy to roar.

Most importantly, cheetah bodies are uniquely built for speed. Their small heads offer little wind resistance, while their exceptionally long legs allow them to take huge strides. During sprints, the cheetah spine acts like a giant spring, storing energy that can be released in explosive surges. And the cheetah's enlarged heart, lungs and liver help deliver bursts of oxygen and energy, while specially ridged foot pads help provide traction, much like a car's tire. Such adaptations “make cheetahs the elite ‘race cars' of the animal world,” says Don Person, a Dutch biologist who has studied cheetahs in East Africa . “They are speed demons.”
